The Ila Amanda and Arthur J. Hill Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established by their daughter, Karen. It honors her parents – her mother, a professional pianist whose life was cut short but never forgotten, and her father who, as Director of Music at Finlandia University (founded Suomi College) in Hancock, Michigan from 1946 to 1967, produced consistently remarkable choirs during the institution's first century of service.
Second generation Finnish Americans, Ila and Arthur Hill collaboratively and naturally emphasized expression in their music, Finnish cultural values, and study of religion in their home and in their work. "Seriousness of purpose, creativity, and attention to detail were major themes in the family," writes Karen. "High standards in all areas were upheld, but support of young people and their endeavors was unconditional, especially from my mother."
The Ila Amanda and Arthur J. Hill Endowed Scholarship Fund has been established to assist committed young people in their studies at Finlandia University. The Scholarship will be awarded to students who have demonstrated seriousness of purpose in some area of endeavor.
